A brief History of Hostel: Women’s College, Tinsukia

Women’s College, Tinsukia provided hostel facilities to the students from the beginning. It was in a rented house at Khageswar Road and later on it was shifted to Durgabari in three houses. In 90’s decade the hostel was shifted to second floor of academic block of the college but within few years it was discontinued and reopened once again from 2006. The hostel shifted to present location from April, 2010 and it became full-fledged hostel from 2011 by accommodating students in all the three floors of the building after proper re construction. The name of the hostel was given S.C.Dey Sorcar Memorial Girls’ Hostel since then. The number of students crossed 100 in 2012 and it was formally inaugurated on 29th March, 2012 by the parents of then DC of Tinsukia, Minakshee Sundaram. Following teachers were appointed Warden of hostel in different times:

Late Ira Das, Ms. Ila Dutta, Bani Sorcar, Moitreyee Sengupta, Shukla Chaudhury, Ranjita Sharma, Shikha Dutta, Dr. Tanusree Sarker (first resident Warden, from 2009-2015),        Mr. T.D. Roy, Mr. Binit Sharma and Ms. Pronita Gogoi and Anindita Hazarika at present.

Besides, there were few temporary residential wardens : Ms. Arpita Chakraborty, Ms. Piyali Dasgupta, Ms. Sangita Hazarika.

At present there are total  44 rooms and total 128 boarders.
