Established on 1st August, 2011 as a self financed department under the mentorship of Ex-Principal Dr. Chandrakanta Sharma, ex IQAC Co-ordinator, Mr. Uttam Dowarah and Dr. Abhijit Mukherjee; Department of Commerce has been a Centre of Excellence ensuring holistic development of students. Our department lives the Institution's Vision " To become a Centre of Excellence of highest order and to contribute towards the nation building." We take pride in stating that our students live upto the expectations of the Institutions by bagging various University positions. We are privileged that the Gold Medalist in Bachelor of Commerce Miss. Priyanka Choubey has been our alumnus. The State topper in AHSEC Commerce Ms. Smriti Thakur has also pursued her Higher Secondary from Women’s College, Tinsukia. Our department can boast of having a well qualified teaching fraternity in which 3 out of 5 teachers are Ph.D. holders and 1 is pursuing Ph.D. all the faculty members are NET/SLET qualified. The faculty members of the department strive for continuous growth and development. They are active in the field of research which is evident from the various Publications in journals of repute.
The students as well as the faculty members of the department are active members of various social organizations such as Rotaract Club, NCC, IMA, etc. The department organizes various Seminars and workshops for the benefit and development of students. Guest Lecturer are a regular practice of the department so as to ensure specialised knowledge to the students. The Commerce fraternity has a strong foundation from the very beginning.
