Profile of the department of Mathematics, Women’s College, Tinsukia
The department of Mathematics at Women’s College, Tinsukia was established in the year 1984 with the appointment of Ms. Sukla Bhattacharjee and then Mr. Dulal Barua joined the department in the year 1985. Initially the subject was offered as a pass course in Mathematics and in the year 1989 with the approval of the governing body of the college the department started offering the subject as a Major in Mathematics. Presently the department is run by three faculties having Assistant Professor as their designation. Apart from regular classes the department from time to time organizes workshop, seminars etc. both for teachers as well as students. Faculties also visit schools in the nearby areas on different occasions like National Mathematics Day, Pai Day etc. to popularize the subject among the children. The department has an educational exchange tie up with the Mathematics department of Silapathar College, Dhemaji. Faculties are actively engaged in publication of books as well as research papers. The department has its own peer reviewed publication ARRAY published by the Publication House, Women’s College, Tinsukia which is a collection of research papers and research articles from distinguished scholars, academicians and faculties from different Colleges and Universities of India.
