NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

 

NSS is a student oriented programme and process oriented scheme. It inculcates the spirit of volunteerism among the students through community interaction. The History of NSS rooted long back and from the principle of Gandhism. The idea behind the formation of a student organisation in the educational institutions is to inculcate the social responsibility and personality development of the students.

Overall Aim: Educational-Service to the community is the activity through which the objective is sought to be attained. Secondly, personality development through social service

A brief history of NSS Unit, Women’s College, Tinsukia:

NSS has been instituted at Women’s College, Tinsukia since 2004-05 session. At the initial stage there were very few volunteers joined but slowly the number increased and in 2015, the university granted second unit for our College. At present, there are 370 volunteers in two units of Women’s College, Tinsukia. Dr. Tanusree Sarker has been serving as Programme Officer of NSS Unit since 2005 and Mr. Gagan Talukdar has been appointed as Programme Officer of NSS Unit-II since 2016. Our NSS units are rendering valuable services in the community and in adopted villages. Till now the Unit has worked in a number of villages like Dimoruguri, Laipuli Bongali Gaon, Goriating, Lezaihola, Mohkhuli and Monkhushi village under Itakhuli block. The unit has conducted eleven Blood Donation camp in the College till date. It has constructed a library in Goriating village and donated good number of books for the villagers. The NSS Unit of our college also constructed and donated a public toilet for ladies in Khageswar Bazar , Tinsukia. The volunteers of our NSS Units attended a number of national and regional camps and in 2018, Paulomi Mukherjee attended the International youth exchange programme in China. The units achieved number of awards from the university, State Govt and NGOs for their remarkable contribution in community service.
