Ethnic Studies and Research Centre (ESRC)

The Ethnic Studies and Research Centre (ESRC) of Women’s College, Tinsukia is established in the month of April 2022. The objective of the centre is to study and conduct research on ethnic diversities of Assam as well as the entire North Eastern Region of India. The centre is committed to promote, preserve and generate awareness of rich ethnic diversities viz., ethnic cultures, demography, agriculture practices, languages, literature, manuscripts, folk dance performance, cuisine, socio-culture beliefs, customs and ethnic philosophy of different ethnic groups.

The centre possesses an elegant ethnic museum having collection of handloom & handicraft products, ornaments, manuscripts, replica of ethnic items etc. One sixth months duration certificate course on Tai Languages is also introduced by the centre from January, 2023. The ESRC has introduced the certificate course by keeping in view the fact that the Tai speaking people of North East India have close socio-cultural and linguistic affinity with the neighboring South East Asian countries. Therefore it is expected that the certificate course on Tai Languages would have immense importance in promoting the goals of India’s Act East Policy and development of Regional Corporation and international relation with the South East Asian nations.
